i3 Studio Orientation

Building orientation is the practice of facing a building so as to maximize certain aspects of its surroundings, such as street appeal, to capture a scenic view, for drainage considerations, etc.

When we start the studio design process with a new client, one of the first points to focus on is the studio orientation. We aim to place the studio in a way that works well with the garden, the home and essentially, in a direction that it will capture the most amount of sunlight.

With all our studios we aim to work in a way that reduces the environmental impact of the build both in the short term, through our construction methods and sustainable materials, and in the long term by ensuring the studio is energy efficient.

Orienting the studio to take advantage of the sun’s warmth increases comfort while reducing heating costs. Good orientation can increase the energy efficiency of the studio, making it more comfortable to live in and cheaper to run.

Additional attention is also paid to the shading of windows and exposure to cool breezes and other forms of natural cooling.
