Even as offices begin to open, more of us are going to be working remotely, if not full time, at least part of the week. Here are five tips to ensure you can work from home effectively and keep productivity as high as in the office.
1. HAVE A DEDICATED WORKSPACE
While working from the kitchen table may have worked in the short term, now working from home is the norm, it’s time to find a dedicated work spot that’s comfortable and productive.
2. CREATE A SCHEDULE FOR WORKING FROM HOME
When you work from the office, you are more likely to have a routine, with working from home it’s important to still have a routine even if it looks slightly different now. Maybe try and get outside before you start work and try and start work at the same time each day. Always take a lunch hour and always finish at the same time as you would in the office.
3. PICK A DESK AND CHAIR THAT WORK FOR YOU
Along with choosing the perfect spot to work in, choosing the best desk and chair to work from will help create a working from home space that’s comfortable and practical.
4. REDUCE DISTRACTIONS
At home, there are many more distractions than there would be in an office. Kids, pets, the TV, phones, piles of washing, dirty dishes. Having a home office that feels separate from your living space, will help with privacy from anyone or thing you share your home with.
5. HAVE CLEAR BOUNDARIES
It’s easy to let your work life seep into your home life when you work from home but it’s essential to create and maintain clear boundaries around your work life. This means creating times when you are committed to working, and times where you are not. It may mean scheduling in your exercise time and leisure time in the same way you schedule work.
